From water filters to bath mats, here are eight bests in household products that you can buy

From water filters to bath mats, here are eight bests in household products that you can buy online today. We make recommendations independently, but participate in affiliate advertising programs that may pay us commission if you make purchases at Amazon.com and other linked retailer sites. Whether you have sliding glass doors, picture windows, large bathroom mirrors, or all the above, it’s a chore to keep them clean and smudge-free. But not if you own a window vacuum cleaner. They come in two styles — handheld and robotic — and each has its pros and cons. While a handheld window vac requires your full attention, it gives you more effective control over the end result. A robotic window vac, on the other hand, uses suction or magnets to attach itself to vertical surfaces and work its way across the glass, freeing you from drudgery and allowing you to clean surfaces that may otherwise be dangerous to access — you just don’t have as much control over the outcome. Either way, ditch the drippy window cleaner spray bottles and messy paper towels and let our shopping guide give you tips on which model is best for your needs. Our favorite is the high-tech H...

Here’s a primer on proximity, smart card, smart phone credentials, readers and long-range solutions for campus

Here’s a primer on proximity, smart card, smart phone credentials, readers and long-range solutions for campus access control. In healthcare and education, it’s critically important to identify and control who comes and goes, but the topics of physical access control and identification badges can be a bit confusing. Whether access control credentials are called badges, tokens or cards, they limit access to a facility to only those who possess one of these credentials. In many cases, workers can access their work areas but not locations such as food service, while the exact opposite holds true for cafeteria staff. Often, too, the security system is programmed to limit access only during specific time intervals, such as a few hours before and after a scheduled event. This is especially important for those venues that provide access credentials to vendors and/or delivery personnel. Related: Survey: Campuses Continue to Embrace Access Control and Lockdown Solutions However, when you start exploring the world of ID badge access, a whole new series of terms pop up: passive cards, active cards, proximity, smart cards, long range readers, Wiegand and so on. Let’s demystify them. Passive...

‘No Time to Die’ Looks Like It Will Have Enough Stars for Two Movies

It snuck up on me how long Daniel Craig has been playing James Bond. Because of the slower pace of film production now, compared to the series’ start, Craig has not appeared as 007 as many times as Sean Connery or Roger Moore. But a record 14 years will have passed between the first installment of the Gritty Bond Reboot, 2006’s Casino Royale, and the April 2020 release of No Time to Die. It’s one thing to watch the climactic (and interminable) Texas Hold ’Em game from Casino Royale and know that Craig has been Bond since poker was cool. It’s quite another to sit with, and ruminate on, the fact that Craig has been Bond since poker was cool. This final installment seems to have been in the works for 14 years itself. Danny Boyle was set to take the directorial baton from Sam Mendes, who helmed the Skyfall-Spectre doubleheader, before he left the project and was replaced by Cary Joji Fukunaga, late of True Detective and Beasts of No Nation. It would be a disservice to Fukunaga’s artistic and technical bona fides to refer to him primarily as a “heartthrob television director,” but he may in fact be history’s only heartthrob television director, so it must be mentioned. Even the title...

Delhi air quality: Judges accuse authorities of ‘passing the buck’

India’s top court has accused state governments of “passing the buck” on air pollution and failing to take action to tackle Delhi’s toxic smog. The Supreme Court said authorities were only interested in “gimmicks”, rather than concrete measures to combat pollution levels. Levels of dangerous particles in the air – known as PM2.5 – are at well over 10 times safe limits in the capital. “Delhi is choking every year and we are unable to do anything,” said Supreme Court Justice Arun Mishra. “The state machinery is not acting… They are passing the buck to each other… Everybody is interested in gimmicks and elections.” From 4 to 15 November, cars with odd or even number plates will only be allowed on the roads on alternate days, officials said. Such a system has been used before but it is not clear if it helps lower pollution levels. Cars are not believed to be the main cause of Delhi’s toxic air, with experts pointing instead to crop burning by farmers in neighbouring states to clear fields. Health officials have asked people to stay indoors and refrain from doing any physical activity as millions are ...
